Post-election Message
A Message to Our Sun Lakes Community
Moving Forward Together: A Renewed Commitment to Good Governance
Regardless of the recall election's outcome, we hope recent events will serve as a valuable learning experience for our entire Sun Lakes community—especially our Board of Directors. Good governance cannot be taken for granted. It requires informed, engaged members and directors committed to serving in accordance with our governing documents, established policies, and applicable law.
As Sun Lakes begins a new relationship with a professional management company, we must understand the distinction between governance and management. The Board establishes policy, exercises independent judgment, and provides oversight. Management carries out its responsibilities effectively and transparently under Board-approved direction. Both must be accountable for their performance.
But accountability begins with us—the members of Sun Lakes. Our responsibility extends beyond voting. It includes staying informed, asking questions, participating in community affairs, supporting our District Delegates and chartered advisory committees, and expecting transparent, well-informed, properly authorized decisions.
We must also take greater care in selecting Board members. We should seek candidates who demonstrate integrity, independent judgment, respect for differing opinions, and a commitment to understanding and following our governing documents. Board service is a responsibility to the community—not simply a position of authority.
Our objective should never be merely to replace directors while allowing the same problems to continue. We must establish a lasting culture of transparency, financial stewardship, accountability, and meaningful member participation.
Sun Lakers for Accountability believes this experience offers an opportunity to turn disagreement into constructive change. Whatever our positions on the recall or recent Board decisions, we share an interest in protecting the quality of life, financial well-being, and community spirit that make Sun Lakes special.
We came together not simply in opposition to one individual, but in support of principles essential to our community's future: effective governance, responsible management, respect for established policies, and accountability to residents. We deserve a Board that respects our District Delegates, values advisory committee recommendations, and welcomes members as participants in decisions affecting our homes, finances, and quality of life.
The true measure of this experience will not simply be an election result, but whether we emerge as a more informed, engaged, and united community—with leadership that earns and maintains our confidence.
This effort should be viewed as a beginning, not an ending.
